When we began writing the lore for Tides of Cinder — the story of Sera Venn, the Last Wick, and a valley where lantern light holds back encroaching ash — we faced a question every independent studio knows well: how do you fund an ambitious original universe without giving up creative control or putting paywalls in front of players?
Our answer was twofold. First, build playable slices of Tides of Cinder directly in the browser so anyone can experience the atmosphere on their phone or desktop today. Second, open the same fast HTML5/WebGL game engine to communities, brands and individuals who want their own playable stories on /creators/.
01. Four playable windows into Tides of Cinder
Today, you can step into Sera Venn's world across four distinct genres in the SweZeebra Arcade — each testing a different facet of tone, lighting and mechanics:
- Tides of Cinder: Lanterns (Chapter 1 — 30 Levels): Our flagship campaign puzzle game. Link glowing lanterns, clear ash-choked sanctuaries, trigger prism surges and restore the Great Wick across 30 handcrafted stages. You can even install it as a standalone mobile app straight from your browser.
- The First Light (Playable Prologue): A quiet, narrated atmospheric journey through the ruined village where Sera's covenant begins.
- The Lantern Path (Platformer Expansion): A three-chapter transformation of Zeebra Quest where your lantern radius physically reveals hidden routes and wards off the dark.
- Chainmates: Tides of Cinder Sanctuary (3D & 2D Chess): Our newly overhauled chess studio featuring a live opening book detector, positional evaluation bar, per-side capture trays, tactical coach hints and a custom Tides of Cinder 3D sanctuary board.
Every game we ship on the road to Tides of Cinder teaches our engine something new — and gives players a real experience today instead of a distant promise.
02. The surprise hit: Personalized "Games as Gifts"
While building our Signature Pinball dedication studio — where players can type a personal message onto the cabinet plaque and export a collector share card — we noticed something unexpected. People didn't just want to share highscores; they wanted to dedicate a playable game to a friend, partner or teammate.
Think about how most people celebrate a milestone birthday, wedding, graduation or team launch: a card, a photo album, or a gift voucher. Now imagine sending a link that opens an instant 60fps browser game starring the recipient's own face or avatar, a custom cabinet inscription ("For Alex · Level 30 Unlocked"), and collectibles built around your shared inside jokes.
You can test that exact flow right now in two places:
- Open Signature Pinball, type a dedication in the Make It Your Story panel, and click 🎁 Turn This Into a Real Gift / Custom Table ↗.
- Go straight to our 10-Second Upload & Play Prototype Tour, upload any photo from your device (processed 100% locally in your browser), switch to Gift Quest, and watch your custom inscription come alive on the canvas.
03. How custom collaborations fuel Tides of Cinder
Every commissioned character skin, community tournament pilot and personalized Gift Edition built through SweZeebra Creators directly supports the artwork, audio and chapter development of Tides of Cinder.
And if you simply enjoy playing our games for free, you are already helping: sharing a finished-run collector card with a friend, climbing a world leaderboard, or leaving optional support on our Support page keeps the lanterns burning.
Studio note: All eight SweZeebra Originals are free to play at swezeebra.com/arcade/. Custom game commissions and gift editions are scoped individually at swezeebra.com/creators/.
